A New and Progressive International Primary School on the Costa del Sol
Alma Forest School is a breath of fresh air in the Costa del Sol international education scene, with an approach that differs from anything else on offer. As a progressive international school, we offer a distinct model of schooling aimed at educating the head, heart and hand. Following on from the success of our forest school, Alma Forest Escuela Bosque, established in 2019 for students aged between 3 and 6 years old, we are now accepting students to join our primary school.
Internationally Accredited Primary School with a Progressive Approach
Using innovative resources from the UK, USA, New Zealand, and Canada, academic skills are taught through a workshop model based on the idea of 'just in time´ teaching. Our academic skills workshops are aligned with international standards while keeping the flexibility to teach them when they suit the needs of our students ensuring children engage with concepts and acquire the skills necessary to make meaning of the world.
Each class engages in a succession of class projects that teachers and students co-create, aligned with the international teaching objectives. In addition, we support students to engage in their own personal projects, enabling them to undertake self-directed explorations experiencing all the risks and rewards of success, failure and perseverance that happens throughout the process.
High Teacher-to-Child Ratio
Building a supportive community of learners, our classes remain small with a high teacher-to-child ratio (8-10 students for each teacher). Each class becomes a tribe who helps each other, learns together and collectively embarks on academic investigations and adventures, daily.
Outdoor-Based Teaching
As one of the first primary schools in Spain largely based outside and following on from our forest school approach used in our younger years, we follow the Scandinavian view of ¨there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes¨. Our children are always up for an adventure and are able to draw inspiration and parallels to their learnings from nature.
Indeed, learning often happens ´out in the field´. Trips that support learning objectives from both the group and individual projects are regularly undertaken in addition to beach outings, hikes into the woods or adventures as a class to places far and wide. These excursions are not breaks from school but rather, they are essential aspects of our curriculum which ensure richness and depth to learning.
Feels Like Home in Our Finca
Located on a Spanish finca just outside of Sotogrande, we have the good fortune to enjoy not only expansive views across to Gibraltar and Morocco, but also fields to play on, trees to climb and animals to care for. Our space has been specifically designed to feel like ‘home-away-home’ for our students, with a strong focus on culture building along with community integration and collaboration.
